Followsummer: The Beginning

...eyes to the horizon, following the summer sun, never allowing it to set...

The original followsummer journey

started on January 2, 2004, flying via Los Angeles to New Zealand for 2 weeks. From there, we continued heading west to Australia covering the eastern Barrier Reef coast and some of Australia’s wine country, and the rest of our time in the Sydney area. Mid-March, we flew to Singapore on the way to spending 2 weeks in Bali. We then spent April in Thailand and India, followed by May in Greece and Turkey.

Early June found us at home in Toronto catching up with family and friends. Mid-June, we flew to Frankfurt, picked up a car, and spent 4 ½ months touring Europe including St. Petersburg, Finland, Scandinavia, Germany, Austria, Croatia, Italy, Spain, France, and the Benelux. In November, we flew to Buenos Aires, spending 6 weeks exploring southern South America, including both Chilean and Argentinean Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego.

Then, home to Canada and back to reality!

followsummer has always been a reflection

on the day-to-day personal experiences of our worldly travel. What started with us jetting away for that year-long voyage around the globe, has now become a more mature and sophisticated travelogue.

We call it living travel: the food, hotels, wine, flights; the thousands of life details that ebb and flow and make your travel truly alive. While not all are perfect and much will go wrong, it is truly living.  We wanted to understand and live the way the locals did, not just be tourists.

Thank you for taking the time to check out our website. We hope that it offers the kind of travel stories, photos, and videos that both excite and encourage you to follow your own followsummer dreams of travel.

May they always be filled with splendour, amazement, wonder,  joy, curiosity, excitement and love...  always heading west, always following the summer sun.

Where do you want to go next?
